Metallic Cat, leading sire of the 2015 NCHA Futurity Sales and sire of Futurity Open champion Stevie Rey Von, ruled on January 7, the second day of the Abilene Spectacular, cutting’s first major limited age event of 2016. Three Metallic Cat offspring tied with 219 points to top the first go-round of Abilene Spectacular 5/6-Year-Old competition – Adelle, owned by Oxbow Ranch and shown by Lindy Burch; Magic Metallic, shown by Beau Galyean for her breeder, Alvin Fults, also the owner of Metallic Cat; and Miss Metallica, shown by Jesse Lennox for Rocking P Ranch.
Five-year-old Adelle LTE $65,391 claimed 219 points in the first set of the day. Bred by Oxbow Ranch, Adelle’s roots, like those of her sire, run deep with Oxbow bloodlines. Metallic Cat, by High Brow Cat, is out of Chers Shadow, who was bred and shown by Oxbow’s Lindy Burch. Chers Shadow won the 1995 NCHA World Finals and lifetime earnings of $211,380.
Play Peek A Boon, Adelle’s dam, won $205,795 under Burch, and produced Oxbow-bred CR Sun Reys, by Dual Rey, who won the 2014 and 2015 NCHA World Finals and earned $330,789 under Boyd Rice for Center Ranch.
Burch was also a top contender on the first day at Abilene with 217 points in 4-Year-Old competition on Oxbow-bred Bet Shes Smooth LTE $88,126, the 2015 NCHA Futurity Open Reserve Champion. Bet Shes Smooth’s dam, Bet Yer Blue Boons LTE $332,960, was also shown by Burch, as 2000 NCHA World Champion, as well as champion of the 2000 and 1997 NCHA World Finals.
The Abilene continues today with the second go-round of the 4-Year-Old Open and concludes on Wednesday, January 13 with both age divisions of the Non-Pro Finals.
