Peptos Chic Olena and Todd Bimat marked 227 for a one-point win over Auspicious Cat in the Mercuria NCHA World Series of Cutting at the Idaho Futurity on August 31. The win, worth $10,529, was the biggest yet for the 7-year-old daughter of Sweet Lil Pepto.
Peptos Chic Olena is owned by Lauren McIntire of Goleta, California. She was bred by Bruce and Connie Clark out of Chic Olenas Promise, a Smart Chic Olena mare from the family of $681,000 producer Quejanamia.
It was the first Mercuria win for Bimat, who won the Las Vegas Classic with Joes Last Cat, by High Brow Cat, on his way to Idaho.
Peptos Chic Olena has been a South Point Classic finalist and a Mercuria finalist at last year’s El Rancho Futurity with Ben Neasham. Bimat made the Mercuria finals with the mare at Las Vegas last month before the breakthrough in Idaho.
Ashley Snider of Bluffdale, Texas and Sly Chance marked 228 to win the Non-Pro finals of the Mercuria NCHA World Series, earning $10,087.
Rieta Dufurrena was second with a 225 on Miss Ella Rey.
Snider had the second high score of 225 in the go-round, behind Dan Hansen’s 225 on Woody Be Lucky.
Sly Chance an Snider enjoyed a successful aged event career, with wins at the Bonanza, and Arbuckle Mountain (twice), as well as a reserve championship at the 2013 NCHA Super Stakes Classic.
Sly Chance was bred by Glade Knight by That Sly Ct out of Oaks Smart Chance, a Doc’s Oak mare that was an NCHA Futurity finalist with John Mitchell. Oaks Smart Chance’s second dam, Dox Smart Chance, was a full sister to Smart Little Lena.
With his latest win, 7-year-old Sly Chance has earned over $167,000.
Snider was marking the 10th anniversary of her win in the Idaho Derby with Instant Bucks. She has career earnings of more than $286.000.
