Marla Gonnet and Dirty Dreamin marked 218 to win the $5,000 Novice Non-Pro finals at the 6666 Ranch NCHA Western National Championships in Denver on Wednesday.
Dirty Dreamin was a $3,000 Novice finalist with Dustin Gonnet earlier in the show. Marla rode the 6-year-old mare to a reserve championship in the Calgary Stampede Classic last year.
Dirty Dreamin was bred by Wingate Ranch by SR Instant Choice out of Saddle My Dreams. She has earned over $28,000 with her Western Nationals paychecks.
At last year’s Western Nationals, Marla Gonnet took the Non-Pro reserve championship on Dirty Dreamin.
Linda Butlin of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Reyd won the reserve championship with a 217.5. Reyd is an 8-year-old son of Dual Rey bred by Three Trees Ranch out of Meradas Missy, a Freckles Merada mare that won the 1996 NCHA Classic Challenge with Jody Galyean, and has produced earners of $660,000, including Rambo Merada ($205,935), Starched Wranglers ($194,643) and Little Merada Lena ($94,326). The Western Nationals paycheck will take Reyd well over $60,000 in lifetime earnings.
Butlin was a $50,000 Amateur and $35,000 Non-Pro finalist on Reyd at last year’s Western Nationals.
