Jason McClure of Hayesville, North Carolina and Tama Boon tied for the lead in the go-round, then came back for a narrow win in the finals of the $15,000 Novice Non-Pro at the 6666 Ranch NCHA Eastern National Championships Wednesday. In the finals, they posted a 219 for a half-point win over Lauren Chartier on Spoonful Of Tears.
Tama Boon was bred by Jim Bilbrey, by Dualin Boon out of Playboy Tamalena, by Tamulena. McClure was an NCHA Futurity Non-Pro finalist on the gelding in 2009, and won the Augusta Futurity Champions Challenge with him earlier this year.
The win at Jackson takes Tama Boon’s career earnings over $100,000.
This was McClure’s second $15,000 Novice Non-Pro win at the Eastern Nationals. Two years ago, he scored with Freckles Meow.
