The American Quarter Horse Association has initiated a program that enables previous owners to reunite with horses that they have sold.

Called “Greener Pastures,” the free program will allow AQHA members to indicate on a horse’s registration certificate that they wish to be contacted if the horse is no longer of value to or able to be kept by the current owner. The program does not guarantee a buyback or an assured home, but it allows members an opportunity to keep track of and provide for the long-term care of horses that they have bred or owned.

“AQHA wants to help responsible horse owners,” said Tom Persechino, AQHA director of marketing. “We believe we can … help ensure the long-term care of horses that we register with this program.”

The Greener Pastures program will allow AQHA to act as a clearinghouse by tracking enrolled horses and AQHA members who have indicated the desire to become involved.
