Last year, Swoopn Indian took a pair of reserve titles at the NCHA Eastern National Championships, presented by 6666 Ranch. On Wednesday in Jackson, Mississippi, he went one better with Lauren Chartier of Weatherford, Texas, to win the $15,000 Novice Non-Pro finals.
Swoopn Indian marked 225 to top Royals Magnificat, ridden by Aubrey Pigg, with a 222.
Swoopn Indian posted a 218, the third highest score in the go-round behind James Bramlett’s 219 on Chief Hawkeye.
He marked his winning score as the 11th horse in the first set of the finals. Chartier also placed ninth on Spoonful Of Tears, a gelding by Hes A Peptospoonful out of Widows Tears. Chartier won the Non-Pro championship at the NCHA Eastern Nationals on Widows Tears’ sire, Widows Freckles.
Swoopn Indian is a 2006 gelding by Hickorys Indian Pep, bred by Robert Cunningham out of Dellaware. He was a finalist last week in Jackson in the Open and the $10,000 Novice with Cullen Chartier, and has now earned more than $70,000.
Reserve champion Royals Magnificat won the Mercuria NCHA World Finals in the $15,000 Novice Non-Pro with Aubrey Pigg last December. Last year, Aubrey won the $50,000 Amateur title at the Eastern Nationals with the High Brow Cat gelding.
