Mary Ann Rapp earned a big paycheck last weekend at the 2008 Cotton Stakes Non-Pro Derby, in West Monroe LA. She won the Non-Pro Derby with 223 points on Want Frys Withat and also claimed reserve with 218 aboard Swingin Star Pepto. In the Non-Pro Classic, won by Elizabeth Queen with 224 points on Sister CD, Rapp tied for sixth place on Miss Reycine. Altogether, Rapp’s Cotton Stakes earnings totaled $48,900.
Women dominated the Non-Pro Derby; only eight horses in the 23-horse finals were ridden by men.
Classic Non-Pro champion Elizabeth Queen, who finished third in the Non-Pro Derby with 217 on Jazzy Touche, earned a total of $39,240 in the two non-pro divisions (she also tied for 15th in the Classic on Bronzed Feather). Her Classic champion, Sister CD, also carried Skip, Elizabeth’s husband, to claim the reserve championship in the Open Classic.
With his Cotton Stakes winnings, Sister CD, by CD Olena, becomes the #2 leading active cutting horse in terms of earnings, with $606,398. Dual Rey Me, by Dual Pep, is the #1 leading active cutting horse, with $612,108.
