Metallics MVP, sired by Metallic Cat and shown by Beau Galyean for Billy Wolf, Whitesboro, Tex., scored 227 points on Wednesday night to win the Abilene Spectacular 5/6-Year-Old Open Classic. Ms Baby Cakes, by Metallic Cat, scored 224 points for the reserve championship under Lloyd Cox, for Barker Ranch Cutting Horses, Madill, Okla. Sundance Jessie, sired by Metallic Cat and shown by John Mitchell for Slate River Ranch, Weatherford, Tex, placed third with 223.5 points.
Five-year-old Metallics MVP came into the Abilene Spectacular with $92,431 earned in eight limited age events, including as a finalist in the 2018 NCHA Open Futurity, and as reserve champion of the Ike Hamilton Open Derby and the Pacific Coast Cutting Stakes.
My Lizzy Babe, the dam of Metallics MVP, earned $163,653 and is a half-sister to Moms Stylish Player LTE $402,019, as well as to Just U Babe, the dam of 2020 Abilene Spectacular Futurity Open Finalist Babes Smart Cat, shown by Tatum Rice. My Lizzy Babe and Just U Babe are out of Moms Stylish Babe, the dam of 11 earners of over $1.3 million.
Beau Galyean, Metallic MVP’s rider, also showed 4-year-old Buonvino, owned by Billy Wolf and sired by Metallic Cat, as a finalist in the 2020 Abilene Spectacular Derby.
Ms Baby Cakes earned $110,363 prior to the 2020 Abilene Spectacular, including as winner of the 2019 West Texas Open Derby and the Cotton Stakes 4-Year-Old Derby. Her dam, Special Nu Baby LTE $481,197, the 2015 NCHA Open World Champion, is the producer of eight money earners, including Smooth Nu Cat LTE $193,816.
Sundance Jessie LTE $58,612, earned the high-score of 224 points from the Open Classic go-round. The 6-year-old Metallic Cat gelding was a top 10 finalist with John Mitchell last year in both the NCHA Super Stakes Classic and the NCHA Classic Challenge, and is a half-sibling, out of the Grays Starlight daughter Jessies Starlight Ms, to the earners of more than $650,000.
